FAQs

Click here if you don't see your question.

By far, our most frequent question is “How much does it cost?”

Well, we’ll tell you after we know exactly what you need. Each job is different and we have set a practice standard that each customer will be offered the opportunity to fully explain their needs. We then develop a customized proposal just for you. Billing rates range from as little as $35 an hour to $175 an hour. Writing services are generally priced by the page, although original or first time proposals are billed based on hourly fees.

“What about discounts?”

Discounts are available for residential and rehabilitation providers, trauma programs, homeless services and for really interesting or unique contracts. Occasionally, we work for free.

“I’m interested in a proposal evaluation. What will I get?”

A proposal evaluation consists of two parts: a written global evaluation of the product and specific annotations in your Microsoft Word document. For an additional fee, we can deliver our evaluation in person during a dialogue with your team.

“When can you start?”

Most engagements can be scheduled within thirty days. Pre-submission proposal evaluations happen in less than 72 hours. Occasionally, it may take as long as 90 days to begin work on your project. Start times and completion dates will be a part of any pre-booking discussions to ensure that your time needs are met.

“How will I be billed?”

Billing is detailed in the engagement letter. Some jobs are billed on progress payments, but most activities are either flat rate or hourly and billed monthly. Terms are NET30 with a two percent late fee.

“These are some pretty significant changes you are proposing. Will I stay in control?”

You always maintain control of your organization. However Turnaround Services – for example – are often difficult and resisted. If we can arrive, diagnose, propose and implement needed changes in short order, organizational health can be restored in short order. If we need to debate every change with your board or staff, the process becomes protracted. Nonetheless, you remain in full control for the length of the engagement. Just remember that you hired a turnaround specialist because you needed one.

“We’ve never written grants before, but we can’t really afford to have you do it for us. Can you advise us during the process?”
Sure. We love teaching and would be happy to provide ongoing consultation without a primary writing role.
